Aquaculture
Ropes that work as hard as you do – beneath the surface, in every tide, through every season. Our 12-strand HMPE ropes are purpose-built for the demands of fish farming and aquaculture operations, delivering the strength, durability, and consistency that productive and safe aquaculture infrastructure depends on.
Rope Solutions Built for Aquaculture Operations
Aquaculture infrastructure never stops working. Mooring systems, net pens, feed lines, and anchor rigs are exposed to constant biological fouling, UV degradation, tidal forces, and mechanical wear – 365 days a year. We supply HMPE ropes engineered specifically for these conditions, combining long service life with low maintenance demands and reliable performance throughout every stage of the production cycle. Backed by over 90 years of experience and trusted by fish farming operations across the world.

FAQ
Practical answers about our rope solutions for aquaculture and fish farming – from material performance and service life to customisation and technical support.
Why are HMPE ropes better suited to aquaculture than conventional rope materials?
Conventional polyester or nylon ropes absorb water, degrade under prolonged UV exposure, and lose significant strength over time in marine environments. HMPE ropes are chemically inert, do not absorb water, and maintain their rated strength throughout their operational life – even under continuous immersion and UV exposure. They are also significantly lighter than steel wire alternatives, making handling, installation, and routine maintenance far safer and less physically demanding for farm crews.
What aquaculture applications are your ropes suited for?
Our ropes are used throughout the full range of aquaculture infrastructure, including:
- Net pen mooring systems – main mooring lines, bridles, and anchor ropes for circular and square pen systems
- Collar and frame lashing – securing floating collar systems and walkway structures
- Anchor and seabed systems – bottom chains, synthetic anchor legs, and clump weight lines
- Feed barge mooring – heavy-duty mooring lines for feed stations and service barges
- Harvest and handling lines – lifting and pulling lines for net handling and fish transfer operations
- Offshore and exposed site aquaculture – high-energy site mooring systems for semi-s
How do your ropes perform in conditions with heavy biological fouling?
Biological fouling – barnacles, mussels, algae, and marine growth – is one of the primary causes of rope degradation in aquaculture environments. Our 12-strand HMPE ropes feature a tight 24 or 32-strand braided cover combined with a proprietary 3-step coating process that significantly reduces surface penetration by marine organisms. The coating also prevents particle ingress into the rope core, maintaining structural integrity and reducing the rate of internal wear caused by fouling-related abrasion.
Can ropes be customised for specific farm configurations and site conditions?
Yes. We work directly with aquaculture engineers, farm managers, and procurement teams to specify the right rope construction, diameter, MBL, and coating for each application and site. Custom lengths, colour coding for system identification, UV-stabilised finishes, and project-specific documentation are all available. Whether you are equipping a single pen site or supplying a large-scale multi-site salmon farming operation, we tailor the solution to your exact requirements.
Are your ropes safe for use in direct contact with fish and marine organisms?
Yes. Our HMPE ropes and coating materials are selected with environmental compatibility in mind. The materials used do not leach harmful substances into the water column and are suitable for use in direct proximity to live fish and shellfish. For operations requiring specific environmental compliance documentation, our team can provide the relevant material safety data on request.
