Inland
Mooring
Reliable mooring solutions for rivers, canals, ports, and industrial waterfronts. Our 12-strand HMPE ropes are engineered for strength, safety, and long-term durability in demanding inland environments – where vessels operate daily and downtime is not an option.
Rope Solutions for Inland Mooring Operations
Inland mooring presents unique challenges – frequent vessel movement, tight docking spaces, changing water levels, abrasion against quay edges, and continuous load cycling. From river barges and push boats to industrial terminals and port facilities, mooring lines must perform consistently in high-frequency, high-contact conditions.
We supply HMPE and high-performance polyester ropes engineered for inland mooring applications -combining high strength, low elongation, excellent abrasion resistance, and long service life. Backed by over 90 years of experience and trusted by marine professionals worldwide.

FAQ
Practical answers about our inland mooring rope solutions – covering durability, safety, specifications, and long-term performance.
Why choose HMPE ropes for inland mooring instead of traditional polyester or steel wire?
HMPE ropes offer extremely high strength with significantly lower weight compared to steel wire. They are easier and safer for crews to handle during frequent docking operations and do not corrode in freshwater or polluted industrial environments. Unlike steel, HMPE does not store dangerous snap-back energy in the same way, improving operational safety on deck. Compared to conventional polyester ropes, HMPE provides higher strength with lower elongation – critical for precise vessel positioning in locks and tight berths.
What inland applications are your ropes suitable for?
Our ropes are widely used in:
- River barges and push boats
- Cargo vessels operating on canals and inland waterways
- Port and terminal mooring lines
- Industrial waterfront facilities
- Lock operations and short-term docking
- Permanent and semi-permanent berth mooring
- Floating pontoons and marina systems
How do your ropes perform under frequent docking and load cycling?
Inland vessels often dock multiple times per day, placing repeated load and friction stress on mooring lines. Our 12-strand HMPE ropes are engineered for high-cycle fatigue resistance. The tight 24 or 32-strand braided cover combined with our proprietary 3-step coating process protects against abrasion from bollards, fairleads, quay edges, and fenders – significantly extending operational life compared to standard mooring ropes.
Are your ropes resistant to abrasion against concrete quays and steel bollards?
Yes. Abrasion is one of the main causes of rope wear in inland environments. Our rope construction provides enhanced surface durability and resistance to mechanical friction. The protective braided cover shields the load-bearing core from particle ingress and surface damage, maintaining structural integrity even in high-contact docking conditions.
Can ropes be customised for specific vessel sizes or port requirements?
Absolutely. We work closely with vessel operators, port authorities, and terminal managers to specify the correct diameter, MBL (Minimum Breaking Load), elongation characteristics, and length for each application. Custom eye splices, protective sleeves, colour coding, and identification marking are available to meet operational or regulatory requirements.
