Rope Solutions Built for Commercial Fishing

Commercial fishing puts ropes through conditions that few other industries can match. Constant wet-dry cycling, heavy mechanical loads, abrasion against deck equipment, exposure to fish oils and chemicals, and relentless UV exposure – all while the clock is running and the catch depends on every component doing its job. We supply HMPE and high-performance polyester ropes engineered specifically for fishing vessels and fishing operations – combining exceptional strength with long service life and low maintenance demands. Backed by over 90 years of experience and trusted by fishing operators worldwide.

FAQ

Straight answers about our rope solutions for commercial fishing — from performance and durability to product selection and technical support.

Why choose HMPE ropes for commercial fishing operations?

HMPE ropes offer an exceptional strength-to-weight ratio – delivering the same or greater breaking strength as steel wire at up to 8× less weight. On a working fishing vessel, lighter ropes mean less fatigue for crew handling lines, faster hauling cycles, and reduced wear on deck equipment such as winches, blocks, and net drums. HMPE also floats, does not absorb water, and resists the fish oils, salt, and chemicals that degrade conventional rope materials over time.

What fishing applications are your ropes suited for?

Our ropes cover the full range of commercial fishing operations, including:

  • Trawling – warp ropes, bridles, and sweeplines for bottom and midwater trawling
  • Net hauling – headline ropes, footropes, and net lifting lines
  • Longlining – mainlines, branch lines, and buoy ropes
  • Purse seining – purselines, braillines, and power block ropes
  • Pot and trap fishing – hauling ropes, groundlines, and buoy lines
  • Vessel mooring and docking – bow, stern, and spring lines for fishing vessels of all sizes
  • Anchor systems – anchor rodes and mooring pendant lines

How do your ropes hold up against the abrasion of deck equipment and seabed contact?

Abrasion is the primary cause of rope failure in commercial fishing. Our 12-strand HMPE ropes feature a tight 24 or 32-strand braided cover combined with a proprietary 3-step coating process that creates a hardened outer surface resistant to the mechanical abrasion of winch drums, fairleads, blocks, and net rollers. The coating also prevents particle ingress – sand, grit, and shell fragments – from penetrating into the rope core where they cause accelerated internal wear. The result is a rope that maintains its rated strength significantly longer than standard fishing ropes.

How do your ropes perform in constant wet-dry and chemical exposure conditions?

Fishing ropes face a uniquely aggressive chemical environment – seawater, fish oils, cleaning agents, and fuel contamination are daily realities on a working vessel. Our HMPE ropes are chemically inert, do not absorb water, and are resistant to the oils, salts, and mild chemicals typical of fishing vessel operations. Unlike nylon ropes, HMPE does not suffer significant strength loss when wet – maintaining consistent performance whether the rope is dry on deck or fully submerged during hauling operations.

Can ropes be customised for specific vessel types and fishing methods?

Yes. We work directly with vessel owners, fishing gear suppliers, and fleet procurement teams to specify the right rope construction, diameter, MBL, and coating for each application and fishing method. Custom lengths, colour coding for gear identification, and project-specific documentation are all available. Whether you are outfitting a single inshore vessel or supplying a deep-sea trawler fleet, we tailor the solution to your exact operational requirements.
